Over 50 international investors attend the energy conference – Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, speaking in the international conference of investors for the construction of the power plant “Kosova e Re”, assured the investors that Government of Republic of Kosovo will offer full support for investments, production and export of electricity. – In his speech addressed to international investors, Thaçi said that Kosovo has the required conditions for investments, and according to him, the building of new energetic capacities from lignite is crucial for sustainable development of the Republic of Kosovo. – “We will offer to the private investors the possibility to also export energy from Kosovo and we will take decisions on the construction of the new power plant on time and in cooperation with investors” said Thaci. – He said that Kosovo has made big investments in power transmission system that will enable investors to export the electricity. – For this project, said the Prime Minister, Kosovo will also benefit from the support of the World Bank. – Minister of Energy and Mining, Justina Pula-Shiroka said that all legislation is prepared so that this project is carried out successfully. She said that this project will not only bring capital to Kosovo, but also the international expertise. – Kosovo Government is planning to select the company for the construction of new power plant by September 2010. Over 50 large companies from all over the world have participated in the conference in Prishtina. Ministry presents the strategy on Investment Promotion 2010-2012 in Kosovo At the Grand Hotel in Pristina, the Investment Promotion Agency Kosovo (IPAK) under the auspicies of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Kosovo have presented the Draft Strategy on “Investment 2010-2012” , the draft strategy is presented to the representatives of local institutions, business community, media and various association representatives. At his speech, Mr. Mustafe Hasani, Head of Investment Promotion Agency said “The aim of the strategy is to set Kosovo on the map as a node leading country in manufacturing, trading and services that serves not only neighboring markets, but also wide economic area, which is often called the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa,” said Mr. Hasani. He also said that this document is authorized by the Kosovo Investment Promotion Agency, on behalf of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Kosovo, which provides an overview of measurements taken by the Government of Kosova to increase the quantity and performance of investment flow in Kosovo. The document also aims to provide specific guidelines for actions on which they are responsible or have interest on promotion and supporting of investment activities in Kosovo. At the end of this presentation was given praise and suggestions on strategy finalization, which document is with interest for Kosovo economy. The project is funded by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and managed the Management & Development Association. Economic Agreement between Kosovo and Macedonia Minister of Finance and Economy of the Republic of Kosovo, Ahmet Shala, and his counterpart of Macedonia, Fatmir Besimi have signed the first economic agreement between both countries. Kosovar Minister Shala, and his counterpart Besimi, said the two countries have as priority the European perspective, noting that mutual cooperation is one of the core values of the European Union. The Agreement in the field of economy, which enables collaboration in several areas and is expected to bring a greater development of both countries. Minister Shala stressed that fiscal policy which follows the Kosovar Government is flexible for businesses and foreign investors. Kosovo: Shengjin seaport soon in service The Republic of Albania Government is currently working its counterpart the Republic of Kosovo Government to implement the plan that will give Kosovo full access to the sea via Port of Shëngjin very soon. It seems that the Albania side has given the final word to give the seaport to the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. "Port of Shengjin will be a general port because it is related to the Durrës-Kukës highway then the intersection linking to the Milot and further with Kosovo. There is interest from the Kosovar government to have access to the Port of Shëngjin, as has a positive willingness of the Albanian government to make this access possible", said the Albania Minister of Transport. Shëngjin Port was an issue discussed for the first time in 2006 between Prime Minister Berisha and former Kosovo counterpart Agim Ceku. Since that time, Berisha assured Prime Minister Ceku that Shëngjin Port will be available to Kosovo. The seaport has a piers and cargo processing capacity to 3000 tons, for now. Kosovo also plans to buil another highway via Gjakova, a town in southern Kosovo, which will shorten the road to Shëngjin. A railroad project has also been discussed. MEM discusses priorities of the energy sector in Kosovo The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) of the Republic of Kosovo organized in its premises a meeting on the European Commission 2009 Kosovo Progress Report, to discuss on energy related matters and to address challenges and priorities for 2010. The meeting was headed by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Dr. Tech. Blerim Rexha, whereas present in this meeting also were other energy sector stakeholders, such as: MEM, representatives of the Office of Prime Minister, KEK, KOSTT, and representatives from the District Heating. |
